Basket air fryer
Philips Airfryer Series 5000 XXL HD9285/93 7.2L
Model HD9285/93 (also HD9285) — United Kingdom, European Union
The same manufacturer's table at nearly double the capacity, which is the cleanest published demonstration in the catalogue of what quantity does to time.

Where to get real advice for this machine
Almost everything that changes a cooking answer is a property of the architecture rather than the badge. This is a basket air fryer, and the Basket air fryer page carries the cooking guidance that actually applies to it.
This is the baseline every cooking page on AirfryerHQ is written for. Times and temperatures are stated for a single layer in a drawer of this kind, so no adjustment applies. The one thing worth knowing about it is that the usable area is much smaller than the advertised litres suggest — the depth is mostly headroom, and food still has to go in one layer.
Does it genuinely air-fry?
Genuine air frying
Genuine, on the same criteria as the smaller model. The one qualification worth stating is that a 7.2-litre drawer is large enough that thermal recovery after loading a full kilogram is materially slower than the 4.1-litre machine's, which is visible in the published time spread rather than asserted here.
- Air moves fast, not just around
- Air reaches every surface of the food
- Fat and moisture drain away
- Reaches genuine browning temperatures
What we know about this machine
Read from Philips Airfryer Series 5000 XXL Connected HD9285/93 7.2L — User Manual (PDF), retrieved on 2026-08-13.
It has a single cooking drawer, so everything in it cooks at one temperature for one time. On preheating: comes up to temperature quickly. It is sold as 7.2 litres, which measures the whole drawer including the space above the food that you must not fill.
The figures above are the manufacturer’s. What they mean for cooking is AirfryerHQ’s reading of them, not a measurement — nobody here has run this machine.

In the manual’s own words: The same highlighted note as the 4.1-litre model: "Preheating of the appliance is not necessary." The manual adds that its settings are suggestions, that ingredients differ, and that the reader should adjust for their own — which is a manufacturer saying what this whole product says about published cooking figures.

11 figures we could not establish
Each of these says WHY it is missing. “Not recorded by the sources consulted” means the manufacturer does not publish it in the document we read — not that nobody looked, and not that the figure does not exist.

What each setting actually does
Read from the manual. The marketing name is what is printed on the panel; the canonical capability is what the mode is in generic terms, so a reader can find advice written for somebody else’s appliance.
| On the panel | Canonically | Starts at | Settable range | Preheat |
|---|---|---|---|---|

| Keep warm | Keep warm | 80°C, 30 min | Fixed — cannot be changed | Not stated |
- Frozen potato based snacks: Up to 1000g. Covers frozen chips, wedges and criss-cross fries. The appliance asks to be shaken four times during this preset unless the reminder has been turned off.
- Fresh fries: Up to 1000g, and the longest of the savoury presets. The manual's own method: 10x10mm cut, soaked 30 minutes, dried, then a quarter to one tablespoon of oil.
- Chicken drumsticks: Up to 1000g, stated as up to 12 drumsticks — one of the few places any manufacturer publishes a count rather than a weight.
- Whole fish: Up to 600g, or two fish of around 300g each. The lowest maximum weight of any preset on the machine.
- Cake: Up to 800g, and it requires the XXL baking accessory, whose published internal size is 199 x 189 x 80 mm.
- Meat chops: Up to 950g, stated as up to five chops without bone. The shortest preset on the machine.
- Mixed vegetables: Up to 1000g, roughly chopped, using the XXL baking accessory, and stirred part-way through.
- Keep warm: The one preset whose temperature the manual states cannot be adjusted. The fan and heater continue to run during it.
Error codes and display states
Only what this manufacturer publishes, and only for this manufacturer. A code means whatever the firmware author decided it means, and reading one across from another brand is the commonest way to misdiagnose a fault.
AirfryerHQ does not hold this code for this manufacturer. That is a statement about this catalogue and not about your appliance: most manufacturers publish no code table at all, and a code's meaning is specific to the firmware that produced it. Do not read a meaning across from another brand — check your own manual, and contact the manufacturer if it is not in there.

The manual forbids baking paper outright — "Never use light ingredients or baking paper in the appliance" — which rules out the parchment liners widely recommended for basket machines, because anything light enough to lift can reach the heating element. It also asks for at least 10cm of free space behind, beside and above the appliance, and the basket carries two separate MAX indications: one for fries and a lower one for other food.
Faults the manual documents, as printed
Only what the manufacturer publishes. AirfryerHQ does not invent the meaning of an error code, and where a manual documents one undifferentiated fault state that is what appears here.
Peeling or chipped spots inside the pan
Philips attributes this to the coating being touched or scratched — specifically to inserting the basket at an angle, so its side knocks the wall of the pan and chips it. Harsh cleaning tools do the same. The manual states the material is food-safe and the chipping is not harmful.
Lower the basket into the pan squarely rather than at an angle, and keep abrasive tools away from the coating. The damage is cosmetic and cumulative rather than a fault to be repaired.
White smoke comes out of the appliance
Three causes are given, and only one is the food: fatty ingredients, greasy residue left in the pan from previous use, or breading that has not adhered and is blowing around the chamber.
Pour off excess oil or fat from the pan and continue cooking; clean the pan and basket thoroughly after every use; press breading firmly onto food so it stays put.
The Airfryer does not switch on
Beyond the plug, Philips names the circuit: "The Airfryer has a high wattage", and several appliances on one outlet can be enough to stop it starting.
Try a different outlet and check the fuses.
Home-made fries do not turn out as expected
Attributed to the potato variety, to storing potatoes cold, to too large a batch, or to not shaking part-way through.
Choose potatoes whose packaging states they are suitable for frying, do not store them in a fridge, cook smaller batches, and shake when the appliance asks.
Replaceable parts
AirfryerHQ holds no part records for Philips Airfryer Series 5000 XXL HD9285/93 7.2L. That is a statement about this catalogue rather than about the appliance: every air fryer has a basket and most have a crisper plate, and the manual read for this model does not enumerate them in a way we could record. What can be replaced, and what to ask for covers the general case, including where to find the model number a parts desk will ask you for.
Recall and safety status
No recall known to us at the review date
No entry for this model was found in the OPSS product safety register when it was searched for air fryers on 13 August 2026. That is a statement about that search and not a clearance.
No verified recall or safety notice is currently recorded in AirfryerHQ for this appliance. That is a statement about this catalogue and not about the product: AirfryerHQ holds a small number of checked alerts and is not a copy of the UK register. Check the authority's own register before concluding that an appliance is unaffected.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards publishes the UK register of product safety alerts, reports and recalls on GOV.UK, and Electrical Safety First operates a recall checker for electrical appliances. Registering an appliance with its manufacturer is what makes a direct notification possible.
Finding the manual
Carries the only published warning in this catalogue about a food GROWING into the heating element: homemade bread should be shaped as flat as possible so it does not touch the element as it rises.
About this model
A 7.2-litre single-basket machine whose food table covers the same foods as its 4.1-litre sibling at quantities up to a kilogram. Reading the two together is unusually informative: thin frozen fries go from 16-22 minutes for 200-500g to 14-33 minutes for 200-1000g, which is a manufacturer conditioning on load rather than publishing one number.
