It is rated at 1400 W, an ordinary domestic rating that recovers temperature reasonably quickly after cold food goes in. It has a single cooking drawer, so everything in it cooks at one temperature for one time. On preheating: comes up to temperature quickly. What each setting actually does

• Frozen potato based snacks: Published with a maximum weight of 500g, which is rare — most preset tables give a time and a temperature and no quantity at all.
• Fresh fries: Maximum 500g, with a published preparation: mealy potatoes cut 10x10mm, soaked thirty minutes, dried, then a quarter to one tablespoon of oil.
• Chicken drumsticks: Maximum 750g, up to six drumsticks.
• Fish filet: Maximum 600g, for fillets around 200g.
• Muffin: 50g per muffin, seven in one go.
• Meat chops: Maximum 300g, stated as up to two chops without bone.
• Mixed vegetables: Maximum 600g, roughly chopped, using the XL baking accessory.
• Keep warm: The time can be shortened to anything from 1 to 30 minutes; the temperature cannot be changed. The manual says the mode is for food just cooked and is not meant for reheating.

Time and temperature can be changed at any point during cooking with the up and down buttons. The On/Off button pauses and resumes, and pulling out the pan and basket pauses it automatically until they go back. To the MAX indication inside the basket and no further, and within the quantity the food table gives for that food. Cleaning this model

The pan and basket go in the dishwasher, the pan with its rubber plug left in. Residue on the heating element comes off with a soft to medium bristle brush, never a wire one. On paper, Philips's documents differ: this booklet says never to use light ingredients or packing paper, the booklet given to the /91R1 says baking paper, and a Philips support answer says baking paper and foil are not recommended because they reduce airflow and can be drawn into the element.

• “E1”

  The manual gives two causes. Either the device is broken or defective, or it has been stored somewhere too cold.

  If it has been somewhere cold, let it warm to room temperature for at least 15 minutes before plugging it in again. If E1 still shows, or the appliance was not cold, the manual's instruction is to contact Philips.

• White smoke comes out of the appliance

  Four causes are given: fatty ingredients; greasy residue left in the pan from previous use; breading or coating that has not adhered, so airborne crumbs burn; and marinade, liquid or meat juices splattering in rendered fat.

  Pour off excess oil or fat and continue; clean the pan and basket thoroughly after every use; press breading firmly onto the food; and pat food dry before it goes in the basket.

• The Airfryer does not switch on

  Attributed to the plug not being inserted properly, or to several appliances sharing one outlet: the manual says the Airfryer has a high wattage.

  Check the plug, try a different outlet and check the fuses.

• Peeling or chipped spots inside the pan

  Attributed to the coating being touched or scratched — by harsh cleaning tools, or by inserting the basket at an angle so its side knocks the wall of the pan. The manual states this is not harmful as the materials are food-safe.
