Where to get real advice for this machine
Almost everything that changes a cooking answer is a property of the architecture rather than the badge. This is a basket air fryer, and the Basket air fryer page carries the cooking guidance that actually applies to it.
This is the baseline every cooking page on AirfryerHQ is written for. Times and temperatures are stated for a single layer in a drawer of this kind, so no adjustment applies. The one thing worth knowing about it is that the usable area is much smaller than the advertised litres suggest — the depth is mostly headroom, and food still has to go in one layer.
That is guidance for the type. On preheating, this machine’s own manual is quoted further down this page, and where the two differ the manual is the one to follow.
Does it genuinely air-fry?
Genuine air frying
Genuine. A perforated cooking tray lifts food inside the basket so air passes under and around it, the heating element sits above — the manual warns that overfilling can bring food into contact with it — and Air Fry is settable to 205°C. A 5.7-litre basket recovers temperature quickly after loading.
- Air moves fast, not just around
- Air reaches every surface of the food
- Recovers temperature quickly after loading
- Fat and moisture drain away
- Reaches genuine browning temperatures
What we know about this machine
Read from Instant Vortex Plus 5.7L with ClearCook, and with ClearCook and OdourErase — User Manuals (PDF), retrieved on 2026-10-10.
It has a single cooking drawer, so everything in it cooks at one temperature for one time. It runs from 82°C to 205°C, which covers ordinary air frying and is too warm at the bottom end to dehydrate with. On preheating: has a preheat programme. It is sold as 5.7 litres, which measures the whole drawer including the space above the food that you must not fill.
The figures above are the manufacturer’s. What they mean for cooking is AirfryerHQ’s reading of them, not a measurement — nobody here has run this machine.

5 figures we could not establish
Each of these says WHY it is missing. “Not recorded by the sources consulted” means the manufacturer does not publish it in the document we read — not that nobody looked, and not that the figure does not exist.
- Usable cooking area
- Not recorded by the sources consulted — Not published.
- Chamber
- Not recorded by the sources consulted — Not published.
- Power
- Not recorded by the sources consulted — The manufacturer publishes a range, not a single figure.

What each setting actually does
Read from the manual. The first column is the name printed on the panel; the second is what that setting is in plain terms, so you can use advice written for somebody else’s appliance.
| On the panel | In plain terms | Starts at | Settable range | Preheat |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Air Fry | Air fry | 196°C, 15 min | 82–205°C | Yes |
| Roast | Roast | 193°C, 18 min | 82–205°C | Yes |
| Bake | Bake | 185°C, 30 min | 82–205°C | Yes |
| Grill | Grill | 205°C, 6 min | 177–205°C | Yes |
| Dehydrate | Dehydrate | 54°C, 480 min | 35–79°C | No |
| Reheat | Reheat | 138°C, 10 min | 49–182°C | No |
- Roast: 193°C here. The same manufacturer's VersaZone and Dual start Roast at 205°C.
- Bake: A metal or glass baking dish may be used on this programme only, with about 2.5 cm of space around it.
- Grill: Described as direct top-down heat. Adjustable down to 177°C and up to 40 minutes on this machine, which neither sibling's Grill is.
- Dehydrate: Eight hours by default, settable from 1 hour to 72 hours.
- Reheat: Starts at once: the manual says there is no preheating time on this programme.
Questions owners ask about this machine
Answered from this model’s own manual (Instant Vortex Plus 5.7L with ClearCook, and with ClearCook and OdourErase — User Manuals) and nothing else. Where the manual does not address a question, it is not answered here from another machine’s.
What this manual calls the parts
- Cooking tray
- The perforated plate the food sits on.
- Cooking basket
- The part that slides out and holds everything.
Other manufacturers use different words for the same parts, and sometimes the same word for a different one. What each part is called, brand by brand.
- Before the first cookDo I need to run it empty before cooking in it?
- The manual says you must. Its test run is Air Fry at 205°C for 18 minutes with the basket in and no food. At Add Food, remove and reinsert the basket without adding anything; at Turn Food, wait ten seconds. Let it cool down afterwards. In the manual: Test run.
- Where it stands, and the space it needsHow much space does it need around it?
- The manual asks for 13 cm of space above and on all sides. It also limits use to 60 minutes in any two-hour period, and says not to place the appliance on a hot stove. In the manual: Important safeguards. Why the clearance matters, and where not to stand one
- The parts, and how they go inHow do I know the basket is in properly, and why is there water in the window?
- The basket is in when its front sits flush with the front of the cooker. The window mists if the basket is washed while hot, so the manual says to let it come to room temperature first. Water trapped in the window after washing can take up to 24 hours to evaporate, and a short cooking cycle clears it faster. The filter-changing steps in the manual apply only to the version sold with odour filters. In the manual: Cook, step 2; Cleaning: Air frying basket; Replacing OdourErase filters.
- Opening it while it cooksWhat do I do when it says Turn Food?
- Take the basket out, turn or flip the food and put the basket back; cooking continues. If the basket is left in, cooking carries on by itself after ten seconds. The Add Food prompt after preheating works the same way: taking the basket out and putting it back moves the programme on.In the manual: Initial test run, steps 6 and 7; Cook: Turn.
- Settings the panel does not explainCan I turn the beeps and the light off?
- Sound: in standby, hold Temp/Time and Light together for five seconds until the display shows Sound Off. Audible safety alerts stay on regardless. Light: press Light to switch it on or off, except in the last 60 seconds of a programme, when it cannot be turned off.In the manual: Turning cooking light On/Off; Turning sound On/Off.
- Settings the panel does not explainHow do I change to Celsius, turn the sound off, or switch the light on?
- In standby, hold Temp/Time for five seconds until the display shows °F or °C. Holding Temp/Time and Light together for five seconds turns the sound on or off, though the safety beeps cannot be turned off. Light switches the cooking light on and off, except in the last 60 seconds of a programme, when it stays on.In the manual: Turning cooking light On/Off; Turning sound On/Off; Choosing temperature unit.
- Oil, and dishes inside itCan I use foil or a dish in it, or does food go on the tray?
- The manual says the perforated cooking tray should be used for most foods, placed straight on the tray with no foil or other covering. Its safeguards go further on foil: do not cover the cooking tray or any part of the appliance with it, because that will cause overheating. A metal or glass baking dish is allowed for the Bake programme only, set inside the basket. In the manual: Cooking: What to cook in.
- How much goes in at onceHow full can I fill the basket?
- The manual prints a prohibition and not a quantity: do not overfill the air fryer, because overfilling may cause food to contact the heating element, which it says may result in personal injury, fire or property damage. No fill line and no maximum weight are given in the copy read.In the manual: Important safeguards.

That figure is from this model’s own rating plate or documentation. A model sold under the same marketing name in another market may be different hardware — different code, capacity, wattage or supply — so check the plate on the machine in front of you rather than the name on the box.
A travel plug adapter changes the shape of the pins and nothing else. It does not convert voltage. Whether an appliance built for one mains standard can be used safely on another is a question about a two-kilowatt heating load, and it is one for a qualified electrician rather than for this page.
Error codes and display states
Only what this manufacturer publishes, and only for this manufacturer. A code means whatever the firmware author decided it means, and reading one across from another brand is the commonest way to misdiagnose a fault.
Component fault

- The manuals give the cause as an open circuit.
- What to do
- The manuals offer no step for the owner to try. Their only instruction is to contact Instant's customer care. Unplug the appliance and do not keep using it while the code shows.
- Can it be reset?
- The manual does not say
- Does it need service?
- Yes, the manual says so

- The manuals give the cause as a temperature sensor short circuit.
- What to do
- The manuals offer no step for the owner to try. Their only instruction is to contact Instant's customer care. Unplug the appliance and do not keep using it while the code shows: a machine that cannot read its own temperature cannot be trusted to control it.

Change Filter
- What the manual says it means
- Not a fault. On the OdourErase version of the machine, the display is saying its two odour filters are due for replacement.
- What to do
- Unplug the appliance, lift the filter housing out of the top, replace both filters, refit the housing and plug back in. Then hold Bake and Reheat together for up to ten seconds to reset the reminder. The manual says the old filters are not recyclable.

Only the cooking tray is listed as dishwasher safe. The basket is washed by hand in warm soapy water once it has cooled, which the manual says reduces fogging of the window; water trapped in the window after washing can take up to 24 hours to clear, and a short cooking cycle speeds that up. Foil must not cover the cooking tray or any part of the appliance, which the manual says will cause it to overheat.
Faults the manual documents, as printed
Only what the manufacturer publishes. AirfryerHQ does not invent the meaning of an error code, and where a manual documents one undifferentiated fault state that is what appears here.
“E1”
The manual gives the cause as an open circuit.
The manual's only instruction is to contact Instant's customer care.
“E2”
The manual gives the cause as a temperature sensor short circuit.
The manual's only instruction is to contact Instant's customer care.
“Change Filter”
On the OdourErase version only: the display is saying the two filters are due for replacement. It is a prompt, not a fault.
Unplug, lift the filter housing out of the top, replace both filters, refit the housing, plug in, and hold Bake and Reheat together for up to ten seconds to reset. The manual says the old filters are not recyclable.
Black smoke is coming from the air fryer
Three causes are given: an oil with a low smoke point, food residue on the heating coil or accessories, or a malfunction.
Cancel the programme, unplug and let it cool, then clean the chamber and accessories and use a neutral oil with a high smoke point. For a malfunction the manual says to contact customer care.
White smoke is coming from the air fryer
Three causes are given: high-fat foods such as bacon, sausages and burgers; water turning to thick steam; and seasoning blown into the element.
Remove excess fat from the chamber before cooking, pat wet food dry, add no water, and oil food lightly before seasoning so the seasoning sticks.
Replaceable parts
Read from this machine’s own documentation. Fit is stated only for the models a manufacturer names — it is never inferred from advertised capacity.
Filter
OdourErase filters for the Instant Vortex Plus 5.7L with ClearCook and OdourErase
Two filters that sit in a housing at the top of the OdourErase version of this machine. The version without OdourErase has no housing and takes none.
You can fit this yourself: Replace both when the display shows Change Filter: unplug, lift out the housing, swap the filters, refit, then hold Bake and Reheat together to reset. The manual says compatible filters are sold on the manufacturer's site and prints no part number, so ask Instant for the OdourErase filters for model AFB6132BK.
The manual names the part but publishes no reference. Quote the model number from the rating label when you contact the manufacturer.
People replace it because: it cannot be got clean any more.
Unplug before lifting the housing out. The manual says the used filters are not recyclable.
The model number is on the appliance's rating label. The manual gives one model number for both versions, so say that yours has the filter housing.

What comes with it, and what can be bought for it
Replacement OdourErase filters are sold by Instant. The manual prints no part number for them, no replacement interval and no description of what they are made of: the Change Filter message is the only schedule it gives.
Recall and safety status
Recall status not checked
No verified recall or safety notice is currently recorded in AirfryerHQ for this appliance. That is a statement about this catalogue and not about the product: AirfryerHQ holds a small number of checked alerts and is not a copy of the UK register. Check the authority's own register before concluding that an appliance is unaffected.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards publishes the UK register of product safety alerts, reports and recalls on GOV.UK, and Electrical Safety First operates a recall checker for electrical appliances. Registering an appliance with its manufacturer is what makes a direct notification possible.
AirfryerHQ has no recall data feed and has not checked. That is not a clean bill of health — it is an absence of checking, and it is recorded as one. Check the manufacturer’s own recall page and your national product-safety register.
Finding the manual
The document read for this page is Instant Vortex Plus 5.7L with ClearCook, and with ClearCook and OdourErase — User Manuals (PDF), retrieved on 2026-10-10. A different revision, or a booklet for another market, may not match it.
A changed time or temperature, confirmed with Start before cooking begins, is saved and used the next time that programme is chosen; changes made once cooking has started are not. Holding a programme's button restores its original settings. The cooking light cannot be switched off in the last minute of a programme. The manual prints one model number for both versions.
About this model
A single-basket machine sold in two versions that share one instruction booklet and one model number: with ClearCook, and with ClearCook and OdourErase. ClearCook is a window in the basket with a light behind it, so food can be checked without pulling the drawer out; it is not a cooking programme. OdourErase is a pair of filters in a housing that lifts out of the top. Instant says of them only that they reduce odours while you cook, and gives no figure for how much.
