Why this is the rule
It is reasonable to assume that a modern kitchen appliance will cut out before it damages itself, and most will. This rule exists because one did not, and the alert describing it is unusually specific: the thermal fuses could reach temperatures in excess of 150 degrees — the marked limit — without the product cutting out, and prolonged use on the highest setting warped and melted plastic and metal parts during testing. That is filed as information rather than as a requirement because there is nothing a reader can do to inspect it. What follows from it is the reason the unattended-operation rule is a requirement rather than a suggestion, and the reason a running appliance is worth being in the building for.
